Every exquisite glass of Obsidian speaks of this unique terroir, encapsulating not only the character of the weathered soils at Onetangi, home to Obsidian’s vineyard on Waiheke Island, but the coastal beauty of the surrounding environment.Tucked away in an amphitheatre setting amongst the vines, Obsidian offers tastings in a relaxed and friendly environment. The cellar door is situated next to a wetland area and vines. Al fresco tastings are often held under the pergola. You are welcome to bring your own picnic and enjoy the peaceful setting at Obsidian. Our friendly cellar door staff will take you through a range of Obsidian and Weeping Sands wines. Open mid October to end April. « less

Lindsay went out of his way to accommodate us despite being busy preparing a club members lunch on the day we visited. While they are well known for their flagship red "The Obsidian" do try the Syrah and their latest addition the Viognier. They are both superb!! More

Obsidian Winery is a must when on Waiheke. The wines are New World and with age will drink exceptionally well. Right now they are drinking very well. Rose in the Cellar door was very informative about the Obsidian journey and our time with her flew - we were there for an hour and a half! Be prepared for a $10... More

It’s a small vineyard a short walk up the hill from Onetangi beach. Compared to the “fancy” wineries found elsewhere on the island, this one has a very down to earth attitude. You get to taste several wines standing by the serving table or sitted on old wine barrels under a canvas canopy, and get good introduction to the different... More
