We did the hike and it was interesting. First things first, it's long and pretty and all the things most reviewers say. It's about 16KM from the top to the boat you'll be on and there are 4 stops. When you exit the national park at KM14, you still have a bit over 2 to go, but there are some... More

My husband and I did the gorge hike in early May. We enjoyed the hike, although you should recognize it's a full day excursion and it's tiring. Here's some key takeaways from this day: 1. We used a company called Diktynna Travel to provide transportation and a guide. They often offer group excursions, but one wasn't available the day we... More

I did this walk through the gorge when I was forty years old with my partner. We started off the walk at 6.30 am where the coach dropped us off. the midday sun reached 100 degree's at the bottom of the gorge and all there was at the bottom of the gorge was a sprinking of water as they had... More

What can I say, spectacular, I took my time, lots of photos and stops, 8 hours in all with a full rucksack. Plenty of fresh water on route so no need to carry.

As we'd heard so much about this we decided to give it a go and it is a truly amazing sight. We thought we were kitted out pretty well for the journey and to an extent we were, but mentally not just as much. Thick soled trainers were ok but, given the terrain, I think hiking boots would've been better.... More

I did already many times the Samaria gorge and I still want to do it again. This gorge is tough to walk but really fabulous. When starting on the Omalos at 1200 m above sea level you cannot conceive the beauty which you will see while crossing the gorge. When you give yourselves the time to watch the nature you... More

If you go to Chania and you like trekking you should go to Samaria. The place is very beautiful and you will have memories for a lifetime. Some tips. You will need approximately 4,5 hours to get down. You should take the earlyest bus from Chania. You should start before 8 o clock in the morning because the sun is... More

Samaria Gorge is the most beautiful in Europe. If you afford to walk wear comfortable shoes, equipped with the necessary (water etc) and start early in the morning. It would be one of the best experiences of your life.

This is the longest gorge in Europe. Its probably one of the most peaceful places in the world. BUT...remember to wear a good pair of hiking shoes and I would suggest that you avoid this trail if you have knee problems as the hike starts with a long decent of mountainous steps that would strain a bad knee seriously. You... More

This is an amazing view of nature and just an overall pleasant walk. It is quite strenuous (about 15km) so you do need to be in moderate shape. Be sure to pack the typical items like a hat, sunscreen, water, food, but try to pack light since you are carrying it with you. The ride up is a little difficult... More
