I enjoy going here at particular times of the breeding year and when all the wild flowers are out. Is is very peaceful and always interesting, brilliant for kids and adults alike.

This urban nature reserve has something to offer everyone and will appeal to families, walkers, birdwatchers and photographers. It is a great place to relax and wind down, listen to birdsong, see flocks of wild ducks and enjoy views of lakes, meadows and marshes. Opening times: Daily 10 am-5 pm (or dusk if earlier). Please note that the reserve is closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

I have visited Rye Meads quite a few times with my family, most recently in Jan 2012. As you approach the Reserve it can seems a little offputting, the brown duck information signs lead you past an industrial estate, via a few scrap yards. Once over the River Lea the landscape changes into a waterworld akin to the Norfolk Broads....

If you like getting a bit of fresh air and having a nice walk this place is perfect. If you like seeing interesting wildlife this is the place too. We saw a kingfisher and lots of other cool stuff. They have an events programme too. The information staff made the visit complete. They were so friendly and made our visit...
