This is a brilliant museum, with a clear & comprehensive descriptions of the rock art. It was winter so we didn't even get to see the rock art itself, but all the explanations really brought it all to life.

we went at the wrong time of year for this attraction - museum is undergoing some decoration. Staff were helpful and allowed us to look around (even though they were not technically open).
Lovely views over the fjord even if looking a very old rocks isnt your thing,

Well preserved and presented. We got a summer intern as the guide and he did not know a word more than the brochures :-(

The Rock Art of Alta is on the UNESCO list. The largest site is at Hjemmeluft. This site is co-located with the premises of Alta Museum. You can walk by yourself and look at the rock drawings or yoy can use a guide. We had a guide and it was nice experience.
It is easy to follow the wooden path around the area to see the different rock drawings. Its amazing to see how the change in different areas.

Althoug Alta Museum is a bit far out of town it is a wonderful setting, although i was very happy there was a good cafe , clean and efficent ,,,
