While you will always see lovely pictures of the castle, don't get too excited, it is a private residence and you won't get within 50 meters of it. That being said the beautiful walks that surround it are certainly worthy of a morning or afternoon of your time. There are hundreds of examples of tree and flowers from all over... More

We just happened on this...on goodness...it was the best afternoon! Have tea at the Courtyard Cafe! Wear good shoes and walk the River Walk trail. Nice gift shop. The telescope is amazing. And a nice exhibition at the beginning. More

We've been a few times; we don't live too far away. We sometimes go when we have visitors from abroad. But it's quite pricy, €9 adult at the moment. Pleasant gardens and much to see there. But I imagine the price puts people off; although it was a lovely Saturday afternoon & we had our picnic by the lake, there... More

The grounds and the gardens in Birr Castle are very much worth a visit. There is so much to see. The Castle is still a private family home and is thus not open to the public. The Parsons family have lived there since 1620. The Great Telescope constructed at Birr Castle in the 1640's by the third Earl of Rosse.... More

Spent the whole of a Sunday afternoon walking around Birr Castle Demesne. It was amazing. The layout of the self-walked tour is fantastic. The gardens are just amazing. The Telescope was an eye-opener indeed. A really excellent way to spend an afternoon/day, I could not recommend it more highly! More

We have visited the Birr Castle Demesne several times on our trips to Ireland. We enjoy our strolls along the vast, beautiful paths that meander through the grounds past beautiful foliage, flowers, art and water features. And the museum of the family's history is quite fascinating, even though we've been through it 3 times now! There's always something new that... More
