Had a good climb up waymarked (limited) routes during a walk from Poggio to Marciana Alta. Great views from near the top of the mountain at about 950m. There is also a chair lift in small cages to the top of the mountain (about 1050m) which we did not use but others who did said was excellent.

We took the cable cars up the mountain. You go up one side, and are let out at the top to explore or go have a coffee at the bar. I think between the two if us up and back down the mountain it was something like 36 euro. Totally worth it, amazing views, amazing experience.

Beautiful views, great experience, a must if you are visiting Elba! The little cage is not as scary as it looks on the photos ;)

We rode the Monte Capanne "cable car" with two small children (3 years and 18 months) and it's quite an adventure. Each "car" is a simple yellow cage that you stand in for the ride to the top. Like a skiing chairlift, these cages don't stop...you have to jog alongside and hop into the cage (then the attendant closes the... More

I hiked up to the top on path "5" to "00" to "5" again. Path "00" can be a moderate to hard climb in places with rock scrambling and the use of metal ropes. The view at the top is quite breathtaking and worth the effort. Beautiful views of the surrounding islands as well. It's nice to bring a lunch... More

A stiff climb from Marciana Alta, first under chestnut trees, then stepping up large boulders includes beautiful flowers and spectacular views down to Marciana Marina. From the top one can see the whole Island (Napoleon was disappointed to see how small his new 'Empire' was!) as well as Corsica, Capri, Montecristo and the Italian coast. 1019 m doesn't sound very... This summer we spent our holiday on Elba Island - in a fascinating residence on the north coast of the island. We visited Monte Capanne, too. Amazing trip!

Anyone who visits Elba should make time for a trip up the Cabinovia on Monte Capanne. It is an amazing experience. It's basically a metal cage for two suspended from a cable! It takes 18 minutes to get to the top and on a clear day, I imagine the views must be incredible. Sadly on the day we went we... More
