The underground cities are quite extraordinary in that they go down about seven levels under the earth. This is really worth a look. More

Derinkuyu has seven floors and 85 meters depth and can shelters thousands. It has extensive defence netwroks of traps. It is difficult to walk or drive around the Cappadocia. Use local tour agency and take "red tour" and "green tour" which local agencies arrange tour with lunch. each tour takes entire day. More

We went by bus from Nevsehir to Derinkuyu, (about 45min long every hour ). Very easy so you don't need to find a tour before to visit the underground city. I don't think it is worth having a guide because there are 3 or 4 floors that you can visit (the guide at the entry of the city will tell... More

Fantastic - do not miss seeing one of the underground cities while you are in Cappadocia, although think twice if you are very tall, wide or unsteady on your feet. Get there early to avoid a claustophobic battle with tour bus loads. If travelling independently spend the money and hire a guide - you will get so much more from... More

When visiting the caves, apart from very early or late, it is difficult to avoid the tour buses. Fortunately they seem to rush through and if you wait patiently they soon pass and it is peaceful again. Only part of the caves to 50 or so metres are open. Those farther down another 40 metres are considered unsafe, The narrow... More

This is an amazing sight. Not good for anyone with claustrophobia as you desend many levels into the earth through small tunnels. I hit my head several times in spite of trying to be careful. I recommend that if you are tall, wear a hat. It will help soften the blows! It's an outstanding sight that should not be missed. More

I especially liked Derinkuyu because the underground chambers went far underground and it was really interesting to hear about how people lived in these caves, with their livestock, during sieges. Some of the carved-out cathedrals are fairly intricate. I would highly recommend visiting Cappadocia. More

Green tour is a must. It would be easy to do with your own transportation but at 60-70TL per person including entries and lunch, the tour is a very reasonable option. Our guide was very knowledgeable. We didn’t do the red tour but walked through valleys from Goreme to Cavusin and on to Pasabagi Valley, then back to Goreme, about... More
