Really ornate building, slightly spoilt by renovation work. Open well into the evening, afternoons and early evening may be the best time to visit; tour groups mainly seemed to visit in the morning.

There are almost 100 churches and chapels in Lecce. If you don't have time for all of them, at least visit the Basilica and Santa Irene (the previous patron saint of the city). Opening hours are early in the morning and late afternoon - enquire at your hotel. Don't try to visit between 1:00 and 5:00 PM: the city rolls...

Magnificent structure of baroque architecture done by the regions most renowned artisans over 100 years in the making. Layers of decorative symbolism on the facade, seen here at night, shows the allegorical design.
Check the hours of entry on the website; it closed the morning we went but we returned that evening when it reopened Breathtaking.

The Basilica of the Holy Cross is a beautiful building in Baroque style. Well maintained and in near perfect condition. The fresco's are wonderful and so are the statues. We spent nearly an hour inside the building. Well worth a visit if you are in Lecce.
