Ground floor offers a survey of Oman's history since the earlies times, while the first floor is dedicated to the Sultan's Armed Forces. There is a large exhibition of miltary hardware (including AFVs, planes and boats) and lifesize dioramas (bunkers, command posts, mine fields) in the gardens around the museum. Allow 2-3 hours for the visit. If coming by car,... More

Located in the active military base near the Grand Mosque, an old fort converted to a military museum. The museum has nice exhibits (arms and ammunition) and good past and present history about Oman. It has two sections, indoor section contains different rooms containing artifacts (arms and ammunition) with its history. The outside section contains old military vehicles, planes and... More

Positioned within a working military base is the original fort which now houses most of the museum. You wander around inside (air-conditioned) looking at the excellent displays and learn a lot about the history of Oman. Outside is display of vehicles, aircraft and even a full sized missile equipped patrol boat. You must be escorted when outside (seeing it's a... More

A captivating insight into Omani military history. Our guide, Yousuf, who served as a Load Master for the Royal Air Force of Oman, took us through the ages with a detailed knowledge. As one reviewer has already pointed out, there is no direct mention of the battle of Mirbat. There are sections however that do go into detail about British... More

Great museum but no mention of UKs involvement in securing the sultan his renaiasance period. Without the Brits he wouldnt be there, many died, it would have been nice to see mention of such things as the Battle of Mirbat when 8 british SAS held off over 250 adoo (enemy) it was a turning point of the War.
