An enjoyable hour long trip under steam with historic rolling stock, through varied Manx countryside to the pleasant small resort of Port Erin. Possible to stop off in Castletown en route, where there is the interesting Castle Rushen and a very well thought out multi-media presentation in the original House of Keys (need to book, limited number of places available)....

A step back in time. Beautiful scenery and quaint stations. Recommend picking up a 'Rail Ale ' leaflet which identifies the best pubs near stations on the Steam Railway ( and the Electric Railway).
A must if you're visiting the Island.

A hint: a good spot for taking pictures is at Castletown where the trains pass each other.

The steam locos date back to 1873-1905. The carriages are a century or more old. Lots of special events now being organised to appeal to train buffs and "normals" alike, so worth checking...

We used the steam train to take us to Port Erin where we caught the bus to the Sound; another steam train journey for an interesting day in Castleton; the bus for an interesting day in Peel, the electric tram to Laxey from where we visited Seafell; and the electric...

I took a short 30 minutes ride each way from Douglas to Balasalla for £10 return. It's a short walk from the station to the ruins of Rushen Abbey which I wanted to see. Also, it was just fun traveling on a steam train again. The engine was rather small but it pulled the carriages along nicely. I am just...
