I first visited Cregneash some 11 years ago. Since I could get in for free with my English Heritage card, I decided to visit again. The village is a living museum and gives a good idea of what traditional Manx life was like many years ago. There is just not enough to see there. Some of the cottages are not... More

Cregneash is lovely in the summer when it's open - in the winter it's pretty bleak! But when they have the locals in costume, showing off their weaving/country dancing/farming knowledge, it's great for all the family. You can wander around the site for a couple of hours and then walk over to the Calf Sound (about 15 mins) or drive... More

What a great way to see a traditional Manx way of life from days gone by. We were there for Hop Tu Naa the Manx Halloween which is more a pagan new year and very enthusiastically celebrated. The Manx make the most of an occaision and this was one of them. Turnip carving which we took part in was a... More

Opened in 1938, the museum is what’s considered to be a working (or ‘living’) museum. This, essentially, means that it shows historical events that demonstrate how life in the past was performed by recreating the conditions of a given period (meaning that visitors can experience the past in a more active and participatory manner). In this case the period happens... More

Well that certainly doesn't sound like my experience, which was the total opposite on all three occasions that I visited also during July 2011. On each occasion I was treated very courteouly and with the utmost respect. I had left my National Trust at home and they still let me in for free, giving me the benefit of the doubt,... More
