The Durham Light Infantry has a long and well-documented history. The museum did a good job with exhibits and provided plenty of context. Loved the German helmet try-on station--who ever had that one had a fat head. Unfortunately, the art gallery was closed when we were there.

We went to the Art Gallery to look at the touring Recording Britain Exhibition and attend the accompanying lecture. Both were well worth the visit. We had coffee beforehand in the little clean café that was limited but good value and welcoming. The surrounding grounds are also attractive. We walked from our city hotel to the Gallery but there is... More

You could hours at this museum soaking up memories of the past. The fact thAt these are extracts from fallen soldiers or memories from families are soul rendering. The history of the DLI through the ages is fascinating ( I am the proud wife of an ex armed forces in the LI) Definitely place I will return to.

I visited early on a Wednesday morning and had the museum to myself. The exhibits are well laid out. I recommend that you read through the literature on the ground floor as it is a fascinating history lesson. The DLI were involved in the major wars from the 18th century and the museum gives you a touching story of the... More

Visited here during half term week with my 8 year old and three month old baby. Free parking and very reasonable admission price. Spent a good couple of hours here - set over three floors (inc art gallery), but there is lift access and layout is pushchair friendly! Well catered for children - with the horrible histories section, and tanks,... More

Tucked away in pretty wooded grounds above the main city, the DLI is an excellent place for a stroll, and a visit to interesting collections. Very reasonable entry fee (and the year pass is a bargain). The military collections are the main focus - a great range here, with more personal details to catch the attention of the non-military minded... More

This is a very good small museum. It contains so many interesting displays, we were particularly impressed by the stories of ordinary soldiers, the extracts from their letters were so touching. Having their stories and photos displayed really makes you think about the personal impact of war on individuals. There is also opportunity to touch some displays, and the horrible... More

This is an excellent museum. The displays are very interesting and well presented, striking a good balance between being personal and being generally informative. A good effort is made, too, to accommodate children. This is really good value for money, and I very much recommend a visit.
