Pros: beautiful views of both bays from the headland location, cafe really nice, reasonably quiet early on Saturday morning Cons: £5 per person Conclusion: best attraction in Scarborough
Impressive, imposing ruin steeped in history. Hey I love castles, history and ruins, so if you like castles, history and ruins this is one for you!
We have visited the castle twice now . My 10 year old grandaughter thoroughly enjoyed listening to information on the audio device. You can't appreciate the size of the castle grounds and ruins till you go up there and the views. Well worth a visit
A great place to visit on a warm sunny day but it's very exposed with hardly any shelter to it's not too comfortable if it's cold, windy or raining.
There's a very good visitors' centre and you can get in free if you have an English Heritage card
There isn't a lot of the castle left but it's a lot...

its a long walk up if you dont know the opening times. wanted to take photos at sunset but unfortunately it closes at 6pm
excellent value, plenty of information about its history, a lovely peaceful, educational place to visit, With a tea room and plenty of outside seating. The views are phenomenal too.
Worth a visit to learn the history of the peninsular both before and after the castle was constructed. Great views of the town and shoreline. However very little remains of the castle so there's not a great deal to see and it probably will take an hour at most.
I visited Scarborough Castle twice while I was there. The views from the headland across both the north and south bays (overlooking the town, harbour and marina) are very good. On a really clear day, you can litterally see for miles along the rugged coast line. There is quite a good audio guide to the site, explaining the main features...

superb headland location with history to match. wonderful picnic spot and views you have to see to believe. Bit of a climb up but then castles were build on hills for a reason! Best thing is that it is so central to the town and the beach so forms a great section of a family day out. Well worth it!
