April 1st. Their website says it is open 11 to 16:00. Get a bus there and discover part of it is closed for refurb ( it's been closed all Winter until today so one may have thought it would be finished) and the rest is only open with a guided tour at 13:30. So in reallity it's only open for... More

Thank you for your feedback. I am very sorry that the information on our website was misleading. It has now been made more clear, that it is the musically guided tour at 13 pm on Sundays that makes it worth paying us a visit this time of the year (April). It is correct as you say that the exhibition in... More

Trondheim has relatively few tourist attractions, but the Ringve Museum should be better-known. Located on a Victorian estate, surrounded by lush gardens, it provides an excellent, personalized view of the history of western music. Most of the tour guides seem to be accomplished musicians and play many of the instruments on display----come of which belonged to composers like Chopin and... More

Norway`s national museum for music. Guides take you round the museum and play some of the instruments. In another part of the museum you can see how musical instruments have developed and hear the sounds of many of them. There are some weird instruments there, among them a drum made from the skull of a Tibetan monk, and several juke-boxes. There is... More

I had a visitor from a foreign country, and my visitor is the curator of a big museum and very interested in music as well. I brought him around many of The Trondheim attractions, and also Ringve Museum. We had a personal, guided tour and my guest was very, very impressed. He has been visiting museums all over the world... More

The guide plays some of the instruments and is able to answer many questions. This, and the audio guide for the barn, gives a good understanding of how musical instruments have developed over centuries in various communities, particularly in Europe but also more generally around the world. You can hear many of the instruments live or recorded, and the collection... More

This old manor contains a unique collection of musical instruments. The guided tours are really interesting, and the guides play on the instruments as well as telling little stories about them. There’s a collection of both old and some newer instruments, and also some peculiar pieces of instruments (like the world’s smallest violin and musical toilet paper). In what used... More
