Surprises around each corner, very clean and well-maintained. Lots of high end shopping and some of the usual tourist junk at kiosks. Of course the area abounds in cafes for the many coffee options of Vienna.

Our second time visiting central Vienna, we loved it just as much as the first time. It is a truly beautiful city, and very walkable. Lots of interesting shops, cafes, pastry shops and other eateries, monuments and historic buildings, museums, you name it.

Very interesting buildings - make sure you look up to see the architectural details.

We seemed to cross-cross Stephansplatz multiple times during our stay. Easy to get to on the subway, and the side streets contain numerous shops, restaurants and art nouveau sites worth discovering.

A perfectly preserved historical gallery of Central European architecture, from the late XVII century to modern times. Mostly interesting for lovers of Sezession/Jugendstil and later evolution. Some post-modern solutions may be arguable, but don't forget that Sezession was secession, and it can continue till nowadays.

See teh Hofburg, the Stephensdom and cafes and shopping in addition to the many many museums and music offerings. A true music/art/gastronomy lovers' delight of an old world town not destroyed by war.

Vienna is very compact, so the whole centre can be done on foot. (If you do need public transport at any point it is of course excellent, not like the UK!!) Everything is very clean and safe to wander round, people are friendly and helpful. Many wonderful restaurants and bars - particularly recommended is a Viennese restaurant Zum Weißen Rauchfangkehrer...

Make sure you allow time to walk all the surrounding parks and streets - many don't get specific mention in tour guides but are wonderful
