I recently visited the Alpenzoo alone (without any children), and, even as an adult, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The zoo is situated in the mountains, which means you either have to hike or ride a rather expensive lift up the mountain to access it. The zoo itself is situated on a mountainside, which means you should bring good walking shoes... More

Tired of visiting always the same kind of zoos? then you need to see the Alpenzoo, the children will enjoy but the adults too! The variety of animals is different from a normal city zoo, and it somewhat preserves the natural habitat of the animals by using the mountain as playground. Plan to spend 2 to 3 hours there if... We always visit zoos and animal parks whenever possible when we're travelling, so jumped at the chance to visit the Alpenzoo. It certainly is quite a hike up the mountain to get there, and we could have caught the funicular from the centre of town, but we are used to lots of walking anyway, so it was a nice (and... More

It was charming with a great little playground for children and a petting zoo area. It was easy to the see the animals. My son loved the gondola ride up. It is a well done small zoo with native species, but I have a hard time getting too excited about it. More

My boyfriend and I like to visit zoos wherever we go. In fact one of our reasons to visit Innsbruck at all was his childhood memory of the Alpenzoo. It lived up to his recollection all right, and I enjoyed my first time experience. I liked the way it focuses only on Alpine animals. It means they'll never be able... More

A really sweet & very interesting zoo, beautifully laid out on terraced grounds above & overlooking the city of Innsbruck. You can travel there by bus, but we went on the Nordkette Bahn designed by Zaha Hadid which was amazing & really worth it for the experience & to see what a great architect can do when allowed to follow... My wife made me do this. But it was a beautiful, sunny day, and the Alpenzoo sits about halfway up the mountainside to Hungerberg and... what the heck!. You can get a combo ticket that lets you take the cable funicular from Congress Station downtown up to Hungerberg, then take a steep but beautiful walk down to the Alpenzoo. The... More

We decided to visit the Alpenzoo as a break from churches and hoffburgs, we were pleasantly surprised, my girls 16&18 also enjoyed it alot. The view across the valley was wonderful, and we timed it for sunset. We enjoyed a snack up in the cafe, was good & reasonably priced for what we ate. Coming from New Zealand, we loved... More

We went to the Alpenzoo since kids always love the zoo. I was not impressed with this zoo. It was fine and killed some time but thats all. The only thing really to see there are birds. The bear was sleeping and we got to see the Otters but that was all. They have a playground which is great but... More

My 12 year old stepdaughter and I visited the Alpenzoo via the furnicular. She absolutely loved it, it's well laid out with amazing views of the city below. There's plenty to see for an hour or so and she enjoyed feeding the farm animals. More
