A fascinating church graced with a beautiful cloister. Well worth the time to inspect the central tomb and the rows of life-size metal statues lined up in honour. The entrance is tied in with the connected Volksmuseum next door, which can be confusing at first.

The cenotaph of Emperor Maximillian is breathtaking in a lovely church. You have to pay to enter, via the Museum next door, and you get to see much of the building. If you buy the joint ticket that covers the Museum entry as well you get to come out at high level in the church for a birds eye view... More

The outside is not so impressive, just like every other church that is easy to just walk by. If I wouldn't have seen the pictures on postcards and asked at the tourist information center, I wouldn't have known what was inside! A must see!

Magnificent display of Habsburg megalomania. The statues designed by Albrecht Dürer are amazing, but the whole complex is impressive, especially since it is basically an empty shell, since the man for whom it was designed is buried in Wiener Neustadt. Enter through the museum and into a little side room where a multimedia display brings the time of Maximillian to life. The enter the church to be overawed by the statues surrounding the empty tomb. Dont miss the silver chapel with the knight on his knees before the alter.

I wished I had spent more time here as I didn't get to see everything, we had a tour guide who explained the story of Emperor Maximilian and that the bronze statues surrounding him were all relatives, friends and ancestors to see him kept safe even in the after life, a beautiful tomb, worth going to see

Maximillian wanted to be remembered in his death and this church insures that he is. The life-sized statuary around his crypt was amazing. Definitely worth seeing!

The church itself is very beautiful, but the most impressive details are the large bronze statues and Maximilian's tomb. The church can be visited either from the upper part through an entrance from the Tyrolian Folk Art Museum or through the regular entrance at the ground floor. I visited the Hofkirche with family on a Tuesday in October. I enjoy visiting churches but was absolutely intrigued with all the bronze statues surrounding the (empty) tomb of Maximilian I.
