Lots of walking, don't go if your injured or have difficulty walking. Ohterwise very worth it. Unique experience with beautiful views. This is the worlds largest Ice caves. One huge negative though keep in mind pictures are not allowed inside the caves. Needless to say but make sure you dress warm. More

We spent a weekend in Werfen in October 2011. The caves are truly fantastic and definitely worth a visit. Tours are available in English, German and other languages. While driving up to the Cave ticket office, dont miss the specatular view of the Hohenwerfen castle. More

We caught the train from Salzburg to Werfen, then the shuttle bus to the ticket office to the ice caves. Next was a twenty minute walk up to the cable car, followed by another twenty minute walk up to the cave's entrance after the cable car trip. The trek up to the cave is a bit strenuous but the views... More

From the rather scary cable ride up the mountain, to the beautiful tour through the ice caves, this is a rather special experience. No photos allowed inside the caves, but you'll be grateful for not having flashes going off ruining the feel. The guide uses natural torches and the occassional magnesium strip to show off the wonders. Highly recommended. More

We visited the Werfen Ice Caves while staying in Salzburg in October 2011. Brilliant! There is a pretty decent walk involved to get up to the entrance of the caves as the bus can only take you so far, but it was definitely worth the experience. If you suffer from any condition which makes walking difficult however, you should probably... More

this tour is not for someone that is afraid of heights, or is not in good shape to put up for the almost two kilometers you need to walk uphill until you reach the cave, then another kilometer or more inside the cave at 0 celsius temperature ( take warm clothing ), plus climbing 700 steps to go up and... Although a long hike up and a lot of stairs it has amazing views. You feel like you are on top of the world! More

I agree with the other reviewers: the walk to the entrance to the caves can be a little strenuous. But, what most people are missing is that the mountain is around 1,500 meters above sea level... which means the oxygen is about 10-15% less than what it would be at sea level. So no wonder people are getting out of... More

We decided to walk from the car park, giving the cable car a miss. It was quite a walk, but manageable with jsut a little fitness. We were surprised how far those who paid for the cable car had to walk!!! The views on the walk were stunning, and even they were surpassed by the magnificence of the ice caves.... More

It is about a 20 min walk up to the cable car and then another 20 min walk up to the entrance. This is a fairly steep walk, but not too bad if you just take it slowly. Best to wear layers too which you can then put on when you are in the ice cave as it is zero... More
