This place of death atop a hill near Linz is an important reminder of the evil of WWII. Russians, gypsies, homosexuals, dissidents and Jews were either worked to death or murdered here. There is an audio tour. More

This was our second concentration camp to visit on our trip so far. It was educational while at the same we could see firsthand the environment of those who were in imprisoned in this camp. What those poor people suffered in this camp is beyond comprehension. To stand at Parachute Jump and know what happened to the prisoners was appalling,... More

Mauthausen is definitely a place everyone that is visiting Austria should see. I've been there twice once with my school class once with my fiancé. Walking in there it seems like such an empty place. Not empty in the sense of no people - it seems empty as in no soul wants to stay there, it's empty of nature -... More

Although very depressing. I firmly believe everyone should visit this site or a place like it and learn first hand of the atrocities that man is capable of Inflicting. It is extremely well maintained and very very informative with audio boxes in a variety of languages to guide you through. More

The only way we can survive is not to forget the past. Mauthausen is a memorial to the over 103,000 prisoners from every country in Europe who died in Mauthausen concentration camp and its sub- camps. A documentary film shown in many languages and qualified guides recount the unbelievable cruelty and torture of the place. Call to book a guide... More

This is a do-not-miss sight if you are traveling Austria. Be sure to get the audioguide in English. Overall, it looks clean and sterile, but there is a presence here that cannot be denied. Brave the hike down to the quarry, and walk up the Staircase of Death. Sit in the empty field where dozens of barracks and the old... More

Our family ( adult children and parents) visited here in January. It was one of the most important things we did on our trip to Austria. The entrance fee is minimal. Both my daughter and myself have a long standing interest in WW2 and Concentration camp history. Being in NZ visiting actual sites has always been out of reach and... More

We stopped in Linz specifically to go to Mauthausen Memorial. Hard to put into words what it was like, but certainly worth a visit! Most of the site looks like it has hardly been touched in the past 60 or so years. Make sure you watch the video before you leave - goes for about 45 mins, in a few... More

The easiest way to get to the Mauthausen Memorial is to take the bus 360 from the Linz / Donau Hbf. Do not travel all the way to Mauthausen town. Get off the bus at "Mauthausen OO Linzer Strasse / Hauptschule" stop. There is a bright yellow school across the road from the bus stop. Just follow the signs straight... More

While we were in Linz we decided to take a train to Mauthausen Memorial. The train stopped at Mauthausen train station ,which is only a small station. From there we had to order a taxi from the reception .It arrived in ten minutes and we shared with four students at a cost of € 1O . We went to the information centre... More
