about half an hour drive from hotel we were staying - azia- yet once htere it felt hours away from the townd , in a beautiful, serene green hill and views of the mountains. very authentic working monastery and nice little food to buy and taste outsdie. More

The service for visitors has been much improved since my last visit. I love the church and the atmosphere of the monastry. Its great to walk around then stop for refreshments in a nice little cafe. Nothing to dislike here. More

This large monastry has car and coach parking, a cafe and gift shop. In the 'Season' it must be impossible. The church is open and free, but the museum, small and mainly filled with icons and religious paraphanalia, costs 1 euro, this also gets you into the monk's cell carved into the rock with scenes from the 'Passion' painted on... The painted walls in the cell are just amazing! The saint's life was spent in search of peace and the whole place reflects this still. Wonderful cool quiet place with fantastic views and countryside all around. Not quite so rich but still awe inspiring. More
