You must take a local bus to this living history museum but it is very simple and well worth it. The museum shows many styles of old houses set in a rural setting. Many of the buildings are furnished and open for touring. A lovely way to spend an afternoon. More

This is WAY off the beaten path in a mostly residential area far east of downtown. Take a bus (the stop is right at the entrance); don't even think of walking there. The museum has a fee, but it is free with the Reykjavik Welcome Card--which also covers the bus fare to get there. The Arbaer Museum really is fascinating.... More
