Free attraction with plenty to see. Look at viking age & Danish stories if you are short on time. Avoid the cafe. The coffee is awful.
I recently did a history degree but knew very little about Danish history so I was keen to learn more about the time of the Vikings, why the Danish empire shrunk so much in the 18th and 19th century and the WW2 occupation by the Germans and the escape of most of the Jews to Sweden in 1943 the museum... We spent about two hours at this museum but you could spend a hell of a lot longer. It was really interesting and we spent time reading everything and taking it all in. I have to confess that after two hours we did start skimming a little as it's surprisingly quite tiring (plus we had done a lot of walking... More
We went to look at the Viking artefacts and it was fascinating to learn about all the artefacts preserved in the old bogs. It is free (like all museums should be) and very peaceful.
We went to the museum primarily for the Viking exhibition, which did not disappoint. Well laid out and informative. The queues weren't too bad, not much of a wait. We didn't have much time, but the rest of the museum looked as if there was something to interest everyone.
We went for the Viking museum but ended up enjoying the other parts of the museum equally. It is amazing that so much history can be so clearly explained, and we were happy as everything was in English!
I loved the way this museum was laid out. It has several floors and each floor has different sections/rooms to enter where you can loose yourself and go back in time. Though there were a lot of people at the museum, you never "felt the crowd" due to the layout. I partically liked the Stories of Denmark section taking you... More
Wow! This museum is just amazing! Everything from the thrilling gift shop with a large section of litterature, to the temporary exhibitions are breathtaking! Must go if in Copenhagen
Now the Burger King and the Little Mermaid are fine. However, if you want to start understanding what makes this lovely country what is it, you need to go to this museum. Take your time, see the exhibits but also after you have left read some more, even if it is just Wikipedia. The more you know about a country... More
Fantastic exhibits well displayed and explained in Danish and English. You can spend a day wandering and never see it all. I believe Sundays are free, but the normal daily cost is very modest and you get a lot of bang for your buck. Thank goodness for the bogs that preserved so many Viking artifacts. If you go to Copenhagen... More
