In the midst of this colorful and vivid landscape stands a burnt centennial olive tree, a memorial and a reference to the dismal fires of 2003, the park’s history and origin. The newest and one of the most interesting sites of the Prefecture of Chania lies only 18 kilometers outside the city, on the feet of the White Mountains. It is ideal for visitors of all ages, combining enjoyments that only Crete can offer! « less

This is a fantastic place if you are interested in plants and nature. They are very environmentally aware and do a lot of good conservation work. You do need a car to visit and I would not recommend visiting in very hot weather as there are a number of hills to walk up and down and very little shade. It... More

Our experience of the Botanical Gardens we have visited are lush areas of vegetation with interesting plants and cool areas to escape the sun in a tropical paradise but that is not what you get in Crete. This park does offer a wide variety of plants but most are quite small as a consequence of a fire some years back... More

Do not think this is close to Hania, without a car I doubt it is possible. Some of the walking is a bit tough if you are getting on a bit, but well worth the effort. Staff are also very helpful

Been meaning to go here for a bit so we decided to go on last day of holiday .This is a lovely place , there is a short or long walk dependant on how energetic you feel .As it is based on the side of hills not very suitable to people with agility issues .You can borrow walking poles and... More

They're nice enough to give you water and lend walking sticks for the garden walk. I recommend you use both. Be sure to have lunch at their restaurant. The meal was one of the best I've eaten in Crete.

We heard about the Botanical Park from another couple staying down in Paleochora and were recommended to visit. Admission was only 5 Euro which also included a bottle of water. You could borrow walking poles and sun hats. The complete route is about 2kms and takes a leisurely couple of hours. The park appears to be laid out in different... More

We went on a small group guided tour; our guide, Demetri, was very knowledgeable and it really made the difference having someone who could add all the local and historical context - and I'm not usually one for guided tours! The gardens are stunning and I could have spent a whole day there easily, although I think people with mobility... More

We went to the Botanical Park as part of our excursion on our cruise. The day started with a little presentation on olive oil and the Crete diet. We were able to sample some greek dishes, wine and olive oil. We then walked through the gardens, which were beautiful and had a variety of plants, flowers, trees, and other things.... More

This is great place to walk and see interesting exotic plants and fruits and well as local botanical specimens. Its owners are very much in evidence, helpful and serve delicious local Cretan food and wine. You can also buy honey, wine, raki and produce in season. A very good day out if you want to get away from the coast... More

Visited this park on a cruise ship excursion. Treated to a demonstration of Cretan foods, followed by a one hour walk in the gardens. Very beautiful and worth the trip. Treated to a sample of Raki after the walk.
