Me and my sister did the gorge a few days ago, we were both scared from all the reviews of how long and tiring it was. So we prepared by bringing lots of food and lots of water and mentally getting ourselves ready for the trek ahead. By the time we crossed the finish line we asked the man taking... More

The gorge is stunning and the walk highly recommended. However don't expect to do it in solitude. Our walk last week was early in the season but it still resembled a constant single file of people for most of the 16 kms. If travelling from a resort it is also a very early start, and late finish. Expect at least... More

Many travelers are going down the Samaria gorge to enjoy nature - an experience of a lot of efforts, walking for hours and returning through a boat at the end. But to those of you who are limited in time or suffering health problems, a driving tour to the start of the track is also a magnificient experience. Drive your... More

I'm not super fit. I was aged 31, 32 and 35 when I walked the gorge. I'm a little short for my weight. Don't let anything like that put you off. It is simply breathtaking. My tips are, take a medium bottle of water (you can refil-but towards the end there are not many springs) wear proper walking boots (... More

We went down the gorge on May 3rd this year and found it a fantastic time of year to walk it. It looks like in the summer it's very busy, and very, very hot. In May, it's still warm (low 20s), the stream is gushing with water, and it appears to be much quieter. From top to bottom is approximately... More

My choice of a quick break to Crete was based on the decision to walk the gorge. I was staying near Chania and you can get a return ticket for this trip from the bus station. Timetables are here and you'll have to leave early as this is a full day trip: http://bus-service-crete-ktel.com/timetable.php Many previous reviews have advised taking lunch... More

15 km walking, down the gorge, an then have a rest in the small village on the beach...completely isolated from the rest of the world. A very good experience, but you must have some training. Don't go with child! More

This is a long walk and should be undertaken only by people in good health and used to walking on rough terrain. The walk is only demanding in that it is lengthy and the terrain underfoot can be diffcult in places as you continually criss-cross the river running through the gorge. At times the views of the sides of the... More
