A very nice park, contiguous with the Pnyx. All the poster pictures of the Acropolis have been taken from here. Don't step on the turtles. More

We could not find the cable car anywhere and nobody seemed to know where it was and the Greeks couldn't understand us!!!! It is one heck of a walk to walk to the top - views are amazing and lovely church at the top - but find the cable car before you go - SO much quicker!!! We came down... More

Do not miss. I went here with family with our picnic bumper in the late afternoon. Had a great picnic sipping watery ouzo from icefilled plastic cups and enjoying the fare we bought from Varvakios market (cheese, charcuterie, fresh tomatoes, and other summer salad veg) and the amazing sourdough bread we got from 'Appolonion' (a small chain of artisanal boulangeries... It is a pleasent walk up the hill with friends and some retsina - the monument is a mecca for young and old alike - especially at dusk and early evening - many bring tripods for photography and if you are there on... It's one of my favorite places in Athens - just go the the top of the hill near the monument and look on the city below - it's amazing! You can seat here in a sunny day and see the history breathes in front of you. More

When the Acropolis looks like it is swarming with ants because of all the tourists, Filopappos is my escape. It has a great view of the Acropolis, it's free, and it is so nice when the weather is good. The hike to the top is easy and you get a 360 degree view of the city. Don't miss Socrates' prison,...
