I highly recommend a stop at this winery. There's a larger tasting room next door, but you definitely need to make this a stop. The owners of this small family owned winery are happy to explain the different types of Madeira wines and let you taste them. This is not the syrupy sweet Madeira most of us know. We came... More

Larvik is absolutely right. I was there 10 days ago straight after my Blandy's tour. They are great hosts and they make great wine. I tried some wines and I bought 3 bottles 1980, 1987 and the one who made his Grandfather :-) (from the 30ies or so) But also their younger 2005 is great. Blandy is good, but after... More

I always visit these cellars when in Funchal. Go to Blandy's, get the full tour, but buy your Madeira wine here! This is aboslute endulgence, can't praise them enough, just hope they'll be there "forever". More

Your get a warm welcome from either brother Artur or Edmondo Olim. Especially Edmondo is very enthousiastic about the wine, but also very sociable and loves to talk to foreigners. The wine is wonderful and so is the little warehouse where all the barrels are stored. I recommend a visit to all wine lovers More

He is so cute telling you about the Madeira wine making in the traditional way. And you can taste such a lovely wine from different vintages, different years, getting to know how it should be; I could taste different varieties of wine of different ages, and I loved it I bought several bottles, a good choice !! If I'll back... More

This is the smallest producer of Madeira on the island. This 4th generation producer welcomes visitors to wander their facility and taste their delicious wines. They do everything by hand and use only sunlight to warm the wines during the aging process. This is a great place to taste Madeira and a wonderful contrast to the slick operation at Blandy's....
