We just loved this museum. It's very well done, incredibly interesting with surprising tidbits throughout. Educational and really fun at the same time. We recommend it! Give yourself at least 2 hours (and we used the Yellow Bus to go...the museum is free on Sundays!)

There are many barges with their history in the exhibition. We were also lucky enough to time our visit to coincide with a celebration of the first crossing of the Southern Atlantic by plane which was very interesting.

One of many great attractions I found in Lisbon was the Maritime Museum. It was far more than I expected and I thought the exhibits were well done and beautifully placed and in a great setting. I learned a lot about Portuguese exploration and sailing in general, especially being from the Midwest of the U.S. The hall with the lifesize...

There are ALOT of model ships and it's alot bigger than I thought it would be. The old maritime stuff is pretty interesting.

I would prefer to see more real ships in this museum. You do get to see some royal barges towards the end, one of which Elizabeth II used in 1957. However it did not fire my imagination as much as I would liked.

you learn history here and see models from the 1300s to modern warships. the attention to detail is great and you could lose yourself here for a couple hours looking at models.
