We hired bicycles close to our hotel and cycled to this wonderful museum in an old monastery. The ride took only 20 minutes and was straight along the coast, with only one hill! It was a great way to combine things with some exercise. The museum was fascinating and just a lovely oasis of calm in the city, super restaurant... More

This is a wonderful museaum that gives you the history of tile in Portugal with many rooms filled with examples. It is easy to get to by bus. We thought it was great because you could see the movement in styles throughout the centuries from the antique to the present. The setting is beautiful and it looked like there was... More

the museum is reachable with bus 28 and any buses that go along the coast. it's a little out of the way but worth a visit and can also be visited with the parque das narcoes which is not too far away. we started the tour on the top floor, so didn't really follow the exhibition which went through different... This was the only museum my husband and I ventured into during our May 2012 visit to Lisbon. The museum is a bit out of the way-it took us an hour to walk from Rossio square and we opted for a quick bus back to the square after our visit. The museum was free on Sunday morning till 2pm I... More

We visited on a Sunday, and it was free until 2:00. The Tile Museum (Museu Nacional do Azulejo) was a former convent with incredible tiles on the walls everywhere. The state has now taken it over, preserved the tiles and converted many of the rooms into a museum with exhibitions about tile making and with many beautiful historical tiles. The... More

This is an astonishing place to visit. The museum is located in a former convent which itself is extensively tiled -- so the visit consists of viewing both the tiles and exhibitions as well as the building and tiles in situ. There is a good explanation of the history of tile making, the tile making process and how tile making... More

A taxi from the center cost 5 euros and it was well worth the trip. The building that houses the tiles is gorgeous--wonderful setting for the antique azuelos as well as newer tile creations. More
