I spent over a week in the Algarve for the Algarve Cup soccer tournament. When not watching soccer, I visited Lagos, Faro, Silves, Tavira, Alcantarilha, and Laranjeiras. But if I had to pick the one must-see among these, it would be the spectacular views from the Fortress at Sagres of the cliffs and shoreline along the coast.

The construction of this fortress, overhanging the cliff at Sagres, is quite remarkable and is a tribute to Old World construction. The sheer cliffs rising around this fort proved to be impenetrable and I can understand why. Worth a visit for the workmanship and view.

As in my other reviews I have toured the Algarve since 1984 especially going west from our Apartment in Vilamoura . Our first venture was by Car to explore the west of the Algarve heading for Sagress, Roads were very primitive then. We stopped at Sagress and made our way to the Beach very deserted.
