We toured the museum in August and it was mind blowing! The tunnels have been there 500 years. They built over it and then excavated it and made it a museum. My wife is at times claustrophobic and this museum did not bother her. There are very interesting artifacts from the period that show you life and building at the... More

I'd especially recomment a night tour of the Palace when the place gets almost unreal. The entrance is through the Musee Belvue (Museum dedicated to Belgian History). If you've got a lot of immagination you can picture all the past splendor of Charlemagne's reign and of his former palace - pitty, that there are only excavations remaining..

Granted, it IS exciting to walk through streets and tunnels that have been there for more than 500 years. But I found that the excitement rapidly declines after the second tunnel or so. Aside from the tunnels there is not much else to see, really. I could have done without the audio guide, which seemed way too long and not... More

It's a palace, street and neighborhood that were sliced off and built over. Thousands of years later, It was dug out and excavated underneath the existing palace and square. Now you walk through and check out what it looked like.

We've been on a bit of an underground/archeology museum kick lately so this was a must do on our list when in Brussels. I would highly recommend getting the audio tour. Though the text panels are in multiple languages, it really adds to the amount of information that you can learn. They explained issues with conservation, decisions on how and... More

I went there because there are few places to go on Sunday in winter, so I thought it was a good idea to stay "indoor". Paid 5 Euro and basically walked through the empty tunnels and chambers. They are well preserved. I also wonder how they build new roads and building on top of it (you can see the bottom... More

A relatively short exhibit followed by interesting tour of underground catacombs. It is pretty barren inside, but quite fascinating to see some of the ancient layers of the original palace, including the original kitchen and sewer/gutter system. Entrance is shared with the BELvue museum, and included in the Brussels Card. Worth a trip just to check it out, and there... More

Interesting seeing the ruins of the former Palais Royale. But, there really was not much to see down below. The artifacts upstairs were more interesting to see. If you are disabled or a senior you will get a discount for admission. Get off at the Parc station, and walk thru the park to the museum which is located next to... More

It is the basements that are the only remains of an old castle. Great audio tour in several pre-recorded languages. For me it was the best attraction in Brussels but I'm a sucker for nostalgia and the feeling of derelict places and broken dreams. Not that it's gloomy in any way, just interesting to see a once grand palace now... More

You can see the changes of the place in Brussels. They say it was a favorite of Charles V.
