I live in Amsterdam and I decided to go to visit the Scheepvartmuseum with my parents when they came to visit me for Easter 2012. The museum is divided in "4 wings" none of them particulary interesting under my point of view: I like to go to museum to see OLD STUFF and here u can find more reconstruction of... More

Maritime museum Amsterdam after a major facelift... Too many multimedia shows and computer animations, I would have loved to see something more authentic. The new museum feels like a enormous computer game with too much neon light and too little authentic items. The best part for us was our visit to the Amsterdam ship. More

It is the first of Amsterdams major museums that reopened after a long restoration and remodeling of the exhibition. And the wait was worth its while. The new Scheepvaart Museum is a breathtaking experience that start when you enter the courtyard of the over 400 years old building (for free, you only buy tickets when you go into the museum).... The most boring and worst museum I've ever been. We tried to visit it before but it was closed due to the fact that there were too many visitors so we went tthe next week. Outside you coul dgo to an old sailing ship but it was closed because there was wind. Inside there is absolutely nothing interesting to see. More

Only found out about this by chance as the barman in a pub we were using told us it was recently re-furbished and re-opened and it hadn't appeared in any of the guidebooks. Plenty to see here from the Netherlands maritime history including a reproduction of an old East India Company ship. Well worth the trip and the only museum... More

Sunday 1st October 2011 was a sunny autumn day! We went with all members of our neighborhood association (Buurtvereniging Spuistraat Edam) to Amsterdam to visit the newly opened Ships Museum. It was extremely busy, but we were very much impressed by the things we have seen! One day is absolutely to less to see all the special items that were... More

We arrived on Sunday morning, and the long line nearly put us off. A helpful attendant explained that this is the first week of opening, and the cardholder swipe things have not yet been installed. Owing to the wet weather, as well as it being a new attraction, the museum was quite crowded, this meant it wasn't always easy to... More
