Such a great place, stayed there for hours and hours, so interactive. The ship replica was very nice, you can walk and touch. Overall a great day there, great display all around museum, and the building is great too

I love ships and boats and all things nautical but this museum missed the target for me. I had high expectations for this museum based upon the huge part the Dutch played on the seas in the early European history, but for me it was still a bit light. The exhibits we saw were presented very well and I learned...

This is a very well refurbished museum that will use at least 2-3hrs of your time to enjoy thoroughly. Excellent restaurant with waterside setting and an authentic old sailing ship to look over.
Amsterdam has a lot of great museums. I would not put this one on the top of the list. The museum is a three-story building and the sections are labeled east, west, south, etc. Every time we wanted to see something, it was off in another section and you couldn't get there from the floor that we were on.
I...

We made sure to include a trip to Het Scheepvaartmuseum National Maritime Museum during our time in Amsterdam. We had been to the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich and had high expectations!
The museum itself is located not far from the Amsterdam Centraal train station, but it was actually a pretty healthy walk in the rain. There was an entry...

The transformation of this former naval storehouse into a marine museum echos Pei's pyramid at the Louvre with a glass-covered center courtyard that serves as a focal point to the museum's four wings. I particularly enjoyed the section of maritime paintings -- sadly the modern efforts cannot match the old masters. Also learned a lot about navigation. Educational for both...

This museum offers attractive exhibits for the whole family. Children will enjoy the replica of the vessel outdoor. Adults will be interested either into the history of globes, either into the models, either into the activity of the port of Amsterdam or into the nautical instruments to measure speed and position.
In every room a theme, and a different technology...

It was a great museum with something for the whole family. I don't have kids, but I used to instruct at a sailing program and I could definitely bring every age group to this place. Not to mention the cool, hands-on exhibits using the old instruments for navigation, speed, latitude and longitude. It was a sea-farers dream! I especially loved...

The building this museum is hosted in is rather lovely, and the large sailing ship moored outside is a beautiful vessel. However, I feel the rest of the museum let it down somewhat. Entirely ignoring the maritime history of the Netherlands before the 17th century, I found that this museum lacking in the depth of the information about the exhibits,...

Great mix of standard exhibits and new experiential media. Loved going aboard the Amsterdam and the multi media experience! Terrific surprises in store here.
