After seeing the Dutch resistance museum and being duly impressed, I saw the Jewish Historical Museum and the Portuguese Synagogue and was greatly underwhelmed. As far as the museum is concerned, don't bother, you can watch a program at home on this subject and see more than viewing the poorly designed limited collection of Jewish history. I had read on... We didn't have enough time to read and absorb everything here, but got a decent amount of info. The layout is a bit confusing, but once in the main room, the displays cover a lot of the prejudice suffered by the Jews over the centuries. We're not Jewish, but have great difficulty understanding why one group of people has been... More

We spent a good couple of hours here.great welcome and shown the free lockers to put or shopping in - much easier easier than carrying around! The old synagogue is respectfully transformed as part of the museum and taking you through from when they first came in the 1600's to 20th century. Great interactive displays, in English , good use... More

I didn't know much about Jewish before, apart from the brief knowledge of the hardship they suffered throughout history. So this was something I wanted to do in Amsterdam. The museum is quite small, but enough to get me all emotional. It's worth going to learn about the Jewish culture and history, and how Netherlands was involved in their past.... More

Interesting Jewish history of Amsterdam. You can get through the musuem in an hour. The musuem cafe had tasty soup and a nice cup of coffee. We used the I Amsterdam card that also included the Portuguese synogogue. Worth spending some time. More
