Locals use another name for the Kalverstraat. It's 'koopgoot'. Hard to translate, but 'koop' meas 'to buy' and 'goot' means 'gutter' or 'drain'. You get the picture. It's thousands of people squeezing themselves through a narrow pedestrian street to buy cloths and shoes they could buy anywhere in shops they could find everywhere.

I don't like the crowds on Kalverstraat and the fact that the stores are all chains,. However, it is the place i go to when I need clothes for the kids.

Almost all fashion shops conveniently in one street. Unfortunately almost all the shops are the same stores you also have in other cities in Europe

The Kalverstraat is one of the famous shopping streets of Amsterdam. Nice visiting and seeing Begijnhof and Historic Museum. You don't find here designer shops, they are located at the P.C. Hooftstraat.

Loud. Cheap shops. Very crowded. In the early days it was the main shopping street of Amsterdam. In a way it still is. But the shops are mostly terrible and the service is poor.

It's just one of those shopping streets where you see all the big chains. I prefer shopping in all the nice little streets with specialized privately owned stores.
