One of the old dykes that used to protect Amsterdam turned into a shopping street that was dilapidated in the 70's but revived in the 90's. The Part furthest away from Central Station is the nicest. Do not forget to eat herring at the beginning of the street on the bridge of the Singel. Best in Amsterdam. More

For shopping in Amsterdam, people usually go to the Jordaan and the 'Kalverstraat' and 'Leidsestraat' at the centre (straight up from the station). But, favourite of mine is the Haarlemmerstraat.
