If you want to go from one end to the other, it's a fairly long boat ride. But from Luzern to Vitznau, where you can catch the cogwheel railway up to Mt Rigi, it's a very nice ride. Boats can get crowded on weekends etc., go first class and sit in the restaurant. There are some special interest boat rides... More

This is the "real" Switzerland of our imagination, as opposed to the light-infused lakes of Constance, Geneva and Zurich. This is the William Tell territory of central Switzerland. OK, it's full of tourists, but the cooped-in feeling provided by the mountains which seem to surround you wherever you go evokes the dark short days of these little cantons before highways,... More

Boat ride is a good experience. The views on a clear sunny day can be great. The boats also provide small snacks and beverages.

This is probably a definite setting for a tranquil, romantic cruise! Pick an evening cruise if you are looking for a quiet time! The lake offers amazing views in and around Lucerne. You get views of the neighboring residential areas and also the sights of the snow covered mountains. This is one of the most picturesque locations and seems as... More

Just took a 2 hr trip on a Sunday and what a good idea it was to get a general view of the lake . We ended end up walking part of it from the city to the LIDO and Transport museum [ NOT THE LAKE THE WALK BESIDES IT ] Ate at the Le Stelle in the old town... More

Lovely views even on a cloudy day. if you have a car available, it's worth a drive around the lake. There are plenty of places to park and next time, I think we should pack a picnic!

Beatiful lake. We enjoyed the walks around the lake. A very lively place with panaromic views of hills around. Lake cruise was most enjoyable.

If you're in Lucerne be sure to take on of the ferry or boat tours on the lake. Depending on your timing they vary from 45 min to 1/2 day or more. You can get off an any of the little towns and villages along the lake, shop, stroll, have lunch and/or a glass of wine/beer and catch the another... More

The beautiful clean green water with swans and a variety of duck species is Lucerne's main tourist asset, there is much pleasure to be had strolling around it and dining beside it. The majestic alps might sometimes be obscured by clouds but the lake can always be appreciated, we took a ferry ride but did not think that it added... More

Boat trip is free with rail pass. Very scenic trip but weather definitely can be a factor. Stopped at Weggis which is a quaint little town with good views and nice restaurants
