I love all Europeans churches, and the Munster in Basel is right up there in my top 5. It is currently under renovations but one can still get in to see the amazing stain glass windows.

We found the inside a bit plain and dark. Interesting gothic and romanesque arches. Directly above the fahre and the whole outside area fantastic.

Look, it isn't Chartres, but this is a 1,000 year old Cathedral you can walk and explore on your own. Go down below the altar in the oldest part, there are tombs nearly a thousand years old. Beautifully maintained and worth seeing. This is also where you can take the ferry across the river,

Old Basel is really nice and Munster place is probabbly the cherry on the cake. It's son nice wander in that area at any day and night time. Atmosphere is so nice, old buildings so elegant and view of the Rhein really impressive.

The Munster is on top of a hill overlooking the Rhine. The cloisters are outstanding and the terrace overlooking the Rhine and thrre countries is breathtaking. The narrow streets around the Munster are also worth exploring, and there are a couple of decent restaurants and museums in the area.
