This is a seemingly untouched gem in Lucca, we pretty much had the place to ourselves and after a slow start with the first several rooms (which presented artifacts from the Etruscan and Roman periods), the remaining rooms simply blew us away. Much of the paintings are by the same artists as you can see at the Ufizzi -- but,... More

A wonderful old palace full of modern technology. It was interesting to follow the growth of Lucca through the ages. The silk route was also very interesting but the photograph exhibition is fabulous. Room upon room of black and white pictures of Lucca over many years. Not to be missed! More

Villa Giungi was one of the venues for Photo Fest Lucca, so there was an exhibit of world-class journalism photos hung on a skeletal framework as well as the historical museum. The museum takes you through Lucca's history and connections, it's trade with Asia. The section on silk weaving in entered through silken curtains. I enjoyed wandering from photos to... More

We loved this museum which is not so packed as the Mansi Mansion (which we also enjoyed, in a different way). The arifacts span centuries and are incredible to think that so long ago people had the talent and abilities to produce magnificent buildings, statues, etc. More

After a few days in Lucca and having exhausted all the obvious targets we made it to the museum. The day before we were there at 4:30 pm but were told that we had to wait for a staff to accompany us and not before 5:00 pm. Attributing this to Italian pecularity we passed but were there the next morning.... More

In sum, in each room of this well-curated museum, we ooh-ed and ahh-ed at something. Over and again, fading with tiredness, one or the other of us (we were three) would call to the others, "Look at this! This is AMAZING!" A real gem! At the end of the day yesterday, Satruday, Oct. 18, well after the height of the... More

I have been to large and small museums all over the world, and this is by far one of the oddest, and not really in a good way. We had been staying around Lucca for over a week, and saw the museum lusted in the guidebook and thought we would give it a shot, being art junkies. The museum keeps... More

Lucca in Tuscany. Museo Nazionale di Villa Guinigi. Admission was every 3 or so hours. Though we were travelling on and had a tight schedule, I was keen to see the local Neolithic and Bronze Age collections so we hang around in the rain for more than 2 hours. We returned to the admission office on time, were acknowledged grumpily,... More
