an old church with a grave yard for fallen soldiers nearby.....church is nice but there is nothing much else to warrant a dodgy climb!

We went up in the no 12 bus from Santa Maria Novella and walked down. Worth it for the view. Delightful church with some interestng features, including apse mosaic. Can pay a couple of euros to get light and good description of mosaic detail, but then light goes out before you can get a good look at it! Interesting cemetery.
it s not really about visiting the church but more about the area around it and the amazing views of Florence you get at this location. The best time to hike up is around 2 hours before sunset. we stayed there through sunset. There was a person singing and playing music and many people just hanging out and drinking beer....

This place was fascinating, beautiful, and the views were the best! We went into the church and someone was playing the pipe organ... creepy, but astounding. Photo opportunities at every turn. Don't miss this place!
While the steps look a bit intimidating, there are not nearly as many as in some of the other sites throughout Florence. It is definitely worth the extra exercise to get a great view of the city.
We headed for the Piazzale Michelangelo, but there were 10 million cars and buses in the parking area so we drove up the road a bit further and turned left up a small road - and there was this beautiful church. We parked by the side of the tiny road (wow - space available!) and walked with our 2 dogs...

The view is beyond worth the effort to walk to this amazing place! We were told to get there just before dusk and we watched the winter sunset filled with amazing colors turn the Florence skyline into a highlight of our European vacation.
A very beautiful and peaceful place. My favorite in Florence. Only short and easy climb to the monastery... Be sure to make some time for San Miniato. You will not be disappointed.
Oldest church in Florence providing a magnificent view on the city. There seems to be no entrance fees and no waiting.
The Basilica di San Miniato al Monte had THE best view of Florence. Also the gift shop was one of the better ones. The Basilica itself was just beautiful.
