The David is so lifelike. It is just incredible. The museum is busy but you should not miss a visit, even if you are a non-art lover. Definitely pre-buy tickets - "skip the line" if possible.
Michelangelo's David was nicer than the replica in front of Palazzo Vecchio. We had the Firenza Card, so did not have to wait more than 15 min. in line. But if we didn't, the line was about 2 blocks long.
Dont miss the real David at the Accademia. It is worth the time and efffort. Buy tickets online so you do not wait in line. Bundle with the Uffizzi.
even though you can see the "fake David" outside in his original location it's not the same. David is fabulous.

We enjoyed the museum and David but this statue is soooo over rated. We were hardly in awe of this supposed hero. there are many other sites in Florence much more worthwhile.
You must see Michelangelo's original statue at the Accademia! The museum has other interesting items and the statue is the major attraction. If you want to avoid huge line-up, book ahead on the Internet!
And to think that Michelangelo was 26 when he did this. They say that the statue already existed in the stone before it was cut... that Michelangelo only removed the excess stone. He was a pure genius.
