This amazing valley deserves a full day. Get ready for a rough road to find the access from the north of the canyon. The view from the south of the valley is amazing, but there is no walking access at the moment, as the path is closed - too dangerous. The walk down from the north side is a steep,... More

If you are ever in Siracusa Sicily in warmer weather, take a day trip to Cava Grande di Cassibile. It's a half hour hike down a mountain to waterfalls and natural pools of water. You need to wear sneakers or closed sandle. Bring towels, food, and drinks. The hike back up the mountain is about an hour. It's well worth... More

The canyon is a nature's hike down to the Cassabile river. However, be prepared to take hiking or trekking shoes (they will deny your descent with any other shoeware ), and your swimming trunks. The valley is beautiful. It will be a difficult walk for young children however. More

We have visited Cava Grande four times and we never get bored. It is quite close to Pozzallo (an hour away) and the drive is quite easy going.Once you arrive there you are greeted with a breathtaking panorama. The descent is quite hard and one must make sure that he or she takes adequate footwear (in fact we witnessed a... More

It took us around 30 minutes to descend and another 30 to ascend. Its not a very difficult descent but when you get to the bottom you see the most beautiful sights! Refreshing waterfalls mainly, they're small enough to sit at the bottom of and feel the force of the water coming down. A free spa basically! More

Cava Grande di Cassibile did not appear in none of our 3 tourist guides (and quite renowed ones) but we stumbled upon it almost and I am glad we did. We went down to the canyon with our baby and it was a wonderful hike, down and up. The lakes are beautiful and so are the caves. It was great... More

It is challenging going up and down to Cava Grande but down there it's heaven. When we went down it was very sunny and hot and one of us was weak, one of the locals stopped to help she had sugar sachets, so it is good idea for you to take a few! but once we arrived we were very... More

I have been to La Cava Grande 4 times and I can say it is one of my favorite trips in Sicily. The approximately 1.5 mile hike can be challenging if you have small children. When my family made the first trip my two daughters were 12 and 10, my son was 6. It was no problem getting down to... More
