Its Santa Maria Assunta church houses impressive mosaics, its bell tower offers great surrounding views—and it’s home to Locanda Cipriani, a well-regarded restaurant and hotel that played host to writing legend Ernest Hemingway . « less

This place is one of the most historical establishments in the City of Venice with a history much longer what we see as "Venice" today. Essentially there's not much to see. Yet, the ancient church and the island itself are worth paying a visit. It has an atmosphere completely different from the usual Venice. Just buy a ticket for the... More

Torcello is in the northern part of the Lagoon and you must first travel to Burano to catch the Vaparetto going to Torcello. Once at Torcello you follow the canal around to the Church of Santa Fosca, a tiny little church, a larger cathedral Santa Maria Assunta, still small in comparison to others in Venice, and a small museum. There... More

This island is so peaceful. Not as many tourists on this island, at least in November, and it holds a lot of history. More

Away from the manic bustle of Venice, this almost uninhabited island was once the commercial heart of the principality and has the most amazing 7th Century Cathedral with fabulous Byzantine mosaics. The easiest way of seeing it is on a 3-island tour (Murano, Burano and Torcello) and it is best to set off as early in the day as you... More

Not a must do if strapped for time. It had nothing that I found unusual or worth a special trip. More

Great visit. Not far from Murano. Visited church on the island. Rude staff at payment desk who have poor English, or pretend to have. Left a bad taste in my visit to Torchello. More

Intimate, natural, lovely. An antidote to the claustrophobic calles in Venice. A place to breathe the air of the lagoon. My friends were married in one of the churches on the island... a wedding they should have charged an entrance fee to, LOVELY! More

Its worth going as part of a tour of some of the other islands. It more quiet, peaceful and less touristy than proper Venice, Murano or Burano so if that's something you're looking for its totally worth the trip. More
