San Zaccaria is not one of the huge Venetian churches, and that is part of its charm. It has a lovely Bellini, a shrine to St. Zaccaria and a very interesting side chapel which contains beautiful choir stalls and three really beautiful carved and gilt altarpieces. If you go into that side chapel (for a one euro fee) you can... More

never did get to the crypt - it was closed when we were there - maybe because the tides were quite high . More

Well worth the visit to this beautiful and peaceful church. Not the same in grandeur as Frari or San Giorgio Maggiore, but still enjoyed this church paintings, altar, the crypt and the final resting place of Zachariah, father of St. John the Baptist. Just fascinated with the history and age of this church. Plus, You are allowed to take pictures... More

A great little area and church just off the Grand Canal. It's relatively quiet here and within walking distance to Piazza San Marco. Our hotel was here and we enjoyed late afternoon drinks and reading on a quiet little terrace overlooking the church. We would definitely stay here again. More

San Zaccaria is a short stroll back behind the famous Piazza San Marco about 5-6 minutes away. This is a nice little campo and church area that seems to grab our attention, even if for just a few minutes in order to take a few clicks on the cameras, every time we visit Venice. The inside of San Zaccaria seems... More

Whenever my wife and I are in Venice we attend Mass at St Zaccaria's and though there's a language barrier we always receive a warm welcome. The Priest there is energetic and obviously devoted to his work - especially with young people. Mass is simple and without overmuch ceremonial. The sermons we have heard have been fairly straghtforward and, despite... More

Another Venetian church - but this one has a small crypt and a small (cheap) museum at 1 euro per person entrance. It's pretty enough, but it's still just another Venetian church. My recommendation - visit three churches at most (St Mark's Basilica, San Giorgio Maggiore, Salute) and leave it at that. More

This is one of my favourite Venetian churches. Everything abut it is lovely, from the calm, light campo outside to the endless delights of the interior. We always go first to the altar in the north aisle with Bellini's sacra Conversazione. The calm figures, gazing into eternity, are nourishment for the soul. But isn't it amazing how an empty church... More
