We bought the 48 hour vaporetto unlimited ride ticket and it turned out to be a great value. We went up and down the Grand Canal for transportation and with a podcast "guide" Very beautiful buildings with lots of history.

Hard to add anything new to the legend and fame of this avenue, but must add some suggestions. Early morning or later evening for the best experience on a vaporetto. Expect noise and congestion during the day - live with it and accept the flow of the city. Cicchetti and Spritz (ask for and you will enjoy) by the canal... More

We walked down the footpath, caught a water bus and even had a gondola trip on it. Lots of photos taken off this really famous canal.

Even though it can be crowded, it offers a Wonderful overview of the Grand Canal and you can get off/on when you like. Nice option, when your feet get tired.

Riding along the Grand Canal in a gondola is an experience not to be forgotten. Especially when a large motor boat passes close by. The Gondoliers are extremely skilful and manage to keep everything on an even keel nonetheless. Seeing the Grand Canal and the Rialto Bridge 'in the flesh' on a beautiful sunny day is quite breathtaking.

Taking a boat down the Grand Canal is the best way to see Venice. However, the water bus is so crowded that it is hard to enjoy the experience. Water taxis are extremely expensive. Try to take ride the water bus very early in the day to be able to get a seat.

I keep feeling I should give this more because it is unique, but really its just buildings on the water's edge, surrounded by too many tourists like me. Maybe I've seen it in too many films and I've become jaded. If you come to Venice, you will see this. Travel it in the day and again in the night by... More

Visting Venice in May is a good time. The Grand Canal glitters in sunshine or melts in opaque eau-de-nil green if there are clouds across the sky. Either way, it is beautiful and graced by so many wonderful palazzi either side, this stretch of water must be one of the most gorgeous in the world. Stay in a hotel overlooking... More

All the city of Venice is a masterwork, from the great places as Piazza San Marco to the hidden little streets all is magic.- I think that if you try to make another city like this it would be imposible.-
