As for the Baptistry of the Duomo, also the Cathedral of the Saint in under restoration so decreasing the pleasure of the visit. All the architecture looks interesting since the building has several cloisters and the part containing the holy relics has tons of statues of gold that really catch the attention of the visitor, no matter if you are religious... Huge and beautfiul basilica, very impressive, near Prato della Valle, a must see in Padua! Very close to basilica Santa Gustina, very interesting comparision of different architectural styles.

We were able to take a day trip by train from Venice to visit the Basilica of Saint Anthony. Seeing the reverence of countless pilgrims at prayer was an unforgettable experience. The basilica itself is an architectural wonder, so beautifully appointed inside. Do not miss the frescoes in the Chapel of Saint James. The ornately colorful detail on the columns... More

Beautiful church. Worth a visit to Padua for this alone. You can enter during prayers but obviously try to be respectful.

Saint Anthony Basilica was constructed immediately after the death of the Saint in 1231 and completed at the beginning of the following century. It is a very imposing construction in Romanesque Gothic style with eight domes and spires of eastern inspiration. It holds the body of St. Anthony and is the object of pilgrimages from all over the world. People... More

A big contrast to the Scrovegni Chapel just up the road. This is a huge place with lots of side chapels, some of them with with work going on in April 2013. You might want to look at the virtual tour on their website before you go (see link on Tripadvisor page) if you want to make sense of it.... More

It was very lovely cathedral. Tomb of St. Anthony is inside and we just touch and pray. It was my second time here and I prayed for the things I wish for my family. The incorruptible tongue can be seen together with his lower jaw. There were brochures in different languages about his life and miracles and you could have... More

I visited MANY churches in Italy but found this Basilica of St Anthony to be the MOST BEAUTIFUL. The church took my breath away and I was so very touched. How beautiful? Well, tears started to flow down my cheeks...I couldn't stop them. Can't wait to return to Padua to come here again.
