There is fantastic history around every corner and wonderful views on all sides. Get the lift up the Campanone bell tower - but beware the bells as they are VERY loud - best go at 1 pm rather than 12 !

Great to wander around in the day. Beautiful for restaurants at night. It can can busy with tourists and locals. If you like a restaurant, book a table for the evening. Most have cover charges but only around 2 to 3 euros. Try the local ravioli at ornellos.

We lunched in Piazza Veccia which seemed to be the main square . It was very pleasant and we visited the Basilica which was beautiful.

It's great small typical italian town with picturesque views, cobbled streets, old churches, stone fortifications and so on. Maybe better than Milano itself. Here you are almost alone not in people behive.

We did a walking tour of the Upper City. It was great to understand the significance of the Upper City. We had a great day in Bergamo, but after you see the Upper City, you've done it all.

Everyone goes to Milano or the lakes, but Bergamo is well worth the detour. The Upper City is the medieval heart of this lovely city and you'll easily spend the day strolling through its charming streets.
