This is an "all of a piece" church distinquished by the tapestries and the Lorenzo Lotto- designed intarsia in and around the choir. Many very good paintings. More

The exterior is very ornate but the ceiling inside has to be seen to be believed - you don't need stained glass when the decoration is so incredible More

The Cathedral is magnificent, both outside and inside. But there is a very special place to see there - the tomb of the great maestro Gaetano Donizetti, who was born in Bergamo, lived there and was buried there. There is a beautiful funerary monument to the most distinguished citizen of Bergamo More

One of the highlights of the Upper City. We had a private tour of the Upper City and the guide spent a lot of time in the Basillica. More

At the time of our visit the Basilica was closed and we entered the Colleoni Chapel thinking that this was the Basilica and we were quite disappointed. However, we later realised our mistake and on entering the Basilica we were quite taken aback by the beauty of this building. Free entrance and well worth a visit as it is just... More

I have seen many Monasteries but this Basilica is really outstanding and definitly worth a visit. The entrance if for free but has opening hours so... More

What can you say--this is a gem. There is so much history and beauty in this single building from the red marble lions outside with hundreds of years of hands touching them so they are almost polished to the stunning marquetry panels inside in front of the alter. Don't miss this one but remember it is closed to the public... More

I saw the pink lions in Parma and these were much better! These lions have babies and there is still detail to these. Both the basilica and cappelle are full of great details. Don't miss the little statues on the gates, they are amazing also. This section of Bergamo has so many beautiful things so close together it is almost overwhelming! More
