A lot of history on the permanent picture gallery to see..as material the only thing left are the cells..but trust me they are impressively scary!

The gorgeous residence of the last archduke of Austria and his wife and later of the Italian royal family. You need to go and see but be aware that there is a curse on it. Couples visiting the castle won't get married....

An interesting part of Italian history and Jewish history during WWII in Italy. The museum is small but depicts the political situation at the time and describes the Jewish population before and after WWII in Trieste.

Right before we traveled to Trieste, Travel and Leisure had an article about the town. The author visited the Museo della Risiera di San Sabba, a former Nazi prison camp. While off the beaten path (we traveled by bus), this was well worth the visit. The place is somber and evocative and moving. The footprint of the former crematorium is...
