The Asinelli tower has a wooden internal staircase attached to the outer walls. It looks quite rickety but is sturdy enough, however the steps are narrow and smooth to the point of slippery in places. There are three internal floors which break up the staircase, but even so, the views down are quite scary. The views from the top are... More

The city view is well worth all the steps up the narrowing staircase. Careful with your shoe selection though. The steps get small near the top and some a bit slippery.

Best view in town! A sea of red brick and hills as far as the eye can see--well worth the climb. However, if you have a heart condition, are afraid of heights, or just plain out shape you may want to skip this one

we climbed the 498 steps from down, don't wear high heels or uncomfortable shoes, they are really really only steps, and up there is quite small so if u see a lot of people coming up, wait until the right time, u can ask the lady in the cash desk

It took a bit of work climbing the approx 498 steps up to the top, but as everyone else has said, it is totally worth it! The view was absolutely fantastic. Besides eating, this was probably one of my favorite activities in Bologna.

A lot of construction in the area, but a wonderful landmark for the city. Somehow a poignant reminder of the twin towers lost on 9/11

A great climb up a very narrow stairway - a bit of exercise to get the blood pumping to help burn off the tortellini. The view from the top is great, the day we climbed wasn't particularly clear but you can see all around it is easy to see why these towers were so commonly used for military lookout posts... More

It's a long climb to the top but the views were amazing. The stairs are narrow and shared both by people going up and down, so patience is needed. We visited on Sunday about midday and didn't find it busy. I don't think I would have enjoyed the climb if it was busy.
