I love to see St. Peter's Square. It is so large and impressive. The colonnade with all those columns also impresses me. Also the statues of all those saints on top. That was a lot of work for Bernini and his disciples. Bernini was a genius and created some very beautiful things in his life.

There were a lot of tourists but everyone was very respectful and just milled around. How could one not find this historical place very good. It was not excellent as I wasn't clear on the directions to anywhere else.

Went there on a Sunday afternoon, when the Vatican museums were closed. (Of course, would have loved to be there when the pope was present, but that was not possible this time.) We knew that everything was closed, but decided to check it out anyway. It was most definitly worth the visit! Because the square was nearly empty, we had... More

The size, the architecture, the atmosphere lived up to expectations. luckily, not too hot. We did the "see hoe many different sorts of nuns you can spot" game (probably not politically correct, but fun nevertheless!)

we were fortunate enough to be in Saint Peter's square on the Sunday morning when Pope Francis was holding a sermon. The atmosphere was electric! There were thousands of people there, despite the rain, several in groups and special costumes, or just their Sunday best. Everybody was very good natured despite the crowds, and if you didn't have binoculars, there... More

The Piazza San Pietro is a very impressive square. Take a good look around and enjoy looking at the amazing buildings and impressive road leading up to the square. The square is quite busy and if you're planning on visiting the cathedral it might take you a while before you find the end of the line. Before visiting the cathedral... More

Many statues ring the square but this is just leading you towards the basilica entrance... Once inside the architecture and works are amazing. There are many photo ops, but if you time your trip right you can get dramatic lights results. I was, or my adolescent son i should say, was fortunate enough to be allowed in the restricted area... My first experience of the square was having a stroll around it late afternoon with the sun low in the sky behind the dome. Lovely! Very impressive obelisk and loved the saints which line the square. There was a more laid back atmosphere. Go during the day and it's a different story, you get pestered endlessly by people trying to... More

The idea of the power, strength and solidness. Very crowded on sunday. You can feel vibrations and feelings from the people. Where spirituality and architecture meet!
